BOGUS CHECK FROM NORTHWEST

Like many others I received a scam letter from Northwest Securities Inc with (what turned out to be) an uncollectable check for $4875 and a promise of a total of $125k US dollars. Don't believe the hype; Northwest just wants to get $2875 from you.

I called the bank whose name appears at the top of the $4875 check, "J P Morgan Bank, Syracuse, New York" and found the scam: according to the account number at the bottom of the check, the check was written from a checking account that DOES NOT BELONG Northwest Securities.

Further, according to the bank representative, all checks written by this account are electronically trackable by check number and check amount as soon as the check is written by the real account holder.

According to the bank's records, I'm holding a check with a check number and amount that was NEVER WRITTEN by the real account holder!

THIS CHECK IS RUBBER.

In the meantime, I am supposed to send $2875 (the scam "payoff") directly to the "tax agent" to cover Canadian "taxes" in order to activate the release the balance of $125k. Don't hold your breath. Worse yet, the $4875 check is fake and will not cover the $2875 pay-off to the "tax agent".

Don't waste your time and money. It's a pretty smooth scam. I was ready to believe.
