I ordered two refurbished TV tuners from Sonystyle.com on 7/9/2008, which came out to about $380. I received the tuners on 7/15/2008, opened them up, and saw that they did not have the power cords required to use them. I'm not sure how Sony would expect someone to use something that requires power without the cord, but that should be stated somewhere on the web site if that's the case, and it certainly is not in any way, shape, or form.
I called that day to find out why the cords were missing, was told at least twice that the cords should have been included, transferred 3-4 times, had the call "lost" at least once, and was left waiting on hold for over an hour at one point before I hung up. My phone bill shows 3 back-to-back calls totaling 114 minutes (24 + 81 + 9) to give you an idea.
I used the online system to contact Sony, explained the issues with the phone system and that I still needed my power cords, and was told to call the 800 number so they could send me the missing cords.
I tried calling again on 7/16, finally got through to someone who again said the cords should have been included and that she was going transfer me to tech support. I was hesitant when she said "transfer" and explained what I had gone through the day before. She said she would stay on the line with me to make sure nothing happened (Thank God for her!). Once I spoke with tech support they said the power cord was not included. The original agent was still on the line, told me I could return them, told tech support she had it from there, and went through the return process. I dropped the tuners off with UPS on 7/17/2008 and saw that "LUGO" from Sony had signed for them on 7/21/2008.
I checked sonystyle.com and my credit card's website a few times over the next few weeks to see if the credit had been issued. I went on a short vacation on 8/17/2008 and was busy catching up on work I had missed after I got back, so kinda forgot about it for a couple of weeks.
I checked again on 8/29/2008, saw that the credit still had not been issued, and called again to find out why. The rep I spoke with said that she would have her supervisor get back to me. A few hours later I received an email from the supervisor saying they had not received the tuners and that I needed to provide proof of delivery and the tracking number. I replied less than 1 hour later telling her that Sony had received the tuner over a month ago and gave the full tracking info/details. At some point right around then I also received an email saying that an account had been created for me at sonystyle.com and to login there to reply to the question, which I then noticed was marked as "resolved". Not sure why they didn't just attach the support ticket to my existing account or how I have 2 accounts with the same email address attached to them... I'm guessing they just didn't pay attention or maybe it's an attempt to confuse the customer, who knows. After noticing it was "resolved" though I replied to the email asking why it was marked as "resolved" and trying to make sure there was nothing more I needed to do. She replied an hour later saying she had sent my info to the proper department, and mentioned a "notebook" a couple of times, though this had nothing to do with a notebook computer.
On Wednesday (9/3/2008) there had been no updates, so I replied via their ticket system basically stating that I expected my refund to be processed by Friday (9/5/2008) in accordance with their policies which state refunds will be credited in 7 days. I also informed her that I would be filing a chargeback on Monday (9/8/2008) if the credit was not issued by then as they had more than enough time at this point.
I was busy that Monday and didn't have a good chance to call my credit card company, so I gave them an extra day. Still no credit issued, so I filed the chargeback complaint with my credit card company this morning.
I also wanted to write a formal complaint to the company, so started trying to find their mailing address. Of course it's nowhere to be found on their web site, so I tried some Google searches. Still haven't found an address, though I did find this site with another customer complaining about their practices, so I figured posting here (and anywhere else I happen to find) would be the next best thing.
